At the start of the year, the winners of QPA’s annual “dec the door” competition received their reward.

The winners are Ms. Tashia Chin’s Senior Advisory of Room 320.  For their hard work, they earned a pizza party, which took place during lunch on Monday, January 9.

They all enjoyed cheese bread, dipping sauces, a variety of beverages, and most importantly boxes of pizza.

Where the winning door is concerned, it appears the idea for the “Night Fight” design came from Devonte, who was inspired by his favorite sport. “I am a boxer,” he said. “So it felt normal to use this theme.”

The entire class was convinced they would win, “without a doubt” because of their collaborative work.

“We put wrapping paper on our door for a diversion while we worked on our real design,” confided Ms. Chin. “Everyone worked on a different piece of the door; everyone brought a little piece of something to the final product.”

Two students admit they had difficulty trying to blend everyone’s ideas into one coherent design. They found the process stressful since, “there wasn’t enough time for us to put the designs together the way we wanted.”

Even so, it all came together in the end, and they’re happy to have learned from the experience.

Devonte was the inspiration for the design, while Ms. Chin, Robert and Helena were key contributors. Blair was primary assistant, while Khyia, Naveer, Genesis and Marilyn provided additional support. Naveer, Genesis and Marilyn also worked on organizing and collecting materials.

Ms. Chin fully acknowledges her students’ efforts. However, to be fair and encourage more participation going forward, only those who actually helped with the designing of the door were part of the celebration.
