Spring is knocking on our door, and QPA welcomed the season in a creative way. Before heading off for a week of freedom, Queens Preparatory Academy celebrated the traditional “Spirit Week.” Spirit Week is a week-long, recurrent social occasion at QPA, and today, we will look deeper into it.
What is Spirit Week?
Spirit Week is a QPA tradition that aims to bring the community together and celebrate students’ and teachers’ creativity. Throughout the week chosen to celebrate this funny and creative period, students, teachers, and staff follow the dress code assigned to each day of the week.
For example, on twin day, you and a friend pair up to dress alike. It’s pretty straightforward, with themes that are easy to follow and accessible to everyone. There’s no need for a crazy budget. As a matter of fact, you’d most likely find everything you need in your closet. You could also say it’s an amusing way to wear your regular clothes.
How We Celebrated
For Spirit Week, Monday, April 7 – Friday, April 11, just before Spring Break, we had the following themes: jersey day, dress for success day, wacky day, decades day, and flag day.
Friday, April 11, was the most exciting day of this entire month, mostly because it opened up an entire week away from school. Everyone loves a day off, so let’s not even talk about an entire week. Friday was also the day of our traditional Community Gathering, and all the colorful flags made it even more special because everybody was able to celebrate themselves, their friends, and most of all their culture.
QPA sophomore Afrin Mou said she really enjoyed the celebration, and she especially liked dressing up as English teacher Ms. Zaidi for Wacky Wednesday.
Additionally, senior Thawidul Islam said Spirit Week was “pretty impressive” and he really liked “watching how everyone dressed up” even though he didn’t participate.
