Change in a school doesn’t always come with fanfare, but sometimes it walks in quietly, ready to listen, lead, and leave a lasting impact. This seems to be the case as Ms. Breene Greene steps into the role of assistant principal at Queens Preparatory Academy A new chapter has begun, and not just for the school’s administration, but for all of us at QPA.
Ms. Breene Greene, our new assistant principal, brings a unique mix of business and educational experience to the community. Originally from Philadelphia, she earned an MBA in Global Business, then pursued a career in Business and Finance.
According to Ms. Breene, she worked in the private sector of a large investment company to help everyday people invest safely for retirement. Later, she joined the New York City Department of Education’s Teaching Fellows, and worked for the department for ten years. She earned a Master’s Degree in special education, and taught social studies at the Captain Vernon A. Richard High School for Fire and Life Safety. She also served as Dean of Student Behavior and Senior Advisor, and in 2024, completed a Master’s in School Leadership. Now at QPA, Ms. Greene is excited to support students and teachers and become part of the QPA family.
The Job of an AP
Being an assistant principal involves juggling multiple responsibilities, from instructional leadership and school culture to student discipline and parent communication, often feeling like a constant balancing act between different “worlds” within the school.
Overall, an assistant principal assists the principal in the day-to-day management and the experiences and skills gained as an assistant principal can be valuable preparation for becoming a principal. They play a crucial supporting role, allowing principals to focus on strategic leadership and school improvement initiatives.
According to Ms. Greene “Meeting new people and working with new teachers and new staff is very different from Brooklyn because I worked in Brooklyn for so long and the vibe is very, very chill.” However, she said, “The students are very laid back and I am enjoying it so far.”

A Closer Look at Ms. Greene
Outside of school, Ms. Greene enjoys relaxing at home with a good movie, traveling, and cooking, something she says she’s pretty good at. She’s also known among friends as a “human spell check” thanks to her strong spelling skills. She loves working with teachers who are eager to grow and supports both staff and students through professional development, guidance, and a strong commitment to academic success. This year, she’s especially looking forward to graduation and helping students celebrate their big achievement.
QPA Speaks
Ms. Smith, the school psychologist, shared her thoughts on the qualities of a good assistant principal. She mentioned that being professional, fair, and a strong leader is important. She also said building trust with staff and connecting with students can help create a positive school environment. In her opinion, supporting students and helping them succeed should always be the main focus.

Mrs. Zaidi, a teacher at QPA, sees Ms. Greene as professional, energetic, and friendly. She believes Ms. Greene will bring positive change and should take time to get to know students. While she appreciated the former AP, Mr. Amaya, she feels Ms. Greene will bring her own strengths. She encourages her to be patient and grow with the QPA community.
Jacoby, a student at QPA, admitted he first thought Ms. Greene seemed strict and avoided her at first. But after meeting her, he realized she was actually kind and friendly. He likes that she’s energetic and often seen around the school engaging with students. Jacoby believes she brings a good balance of authority and fun and thinks she’s already doing a great job connecting with students.
Najyah, a senior at QPA, described the new assistant principal as professional, motivated, and positive. She believes staying visible, listening to students, and understanding the school culture will help her make a strong impact. Najyah hopes for clear communication, fair discipline, and active involvement in student life.
We welcome AP Greene with open arms and thank her for stepping up to show that she is truly ready to be part of the QPA family. She has already shown that she is willing to help and support wherever there is a need. As School Counselor Ms. Edwards shared, it’s clear that Ms. Greene is here to make a difference and QPA is lucky to have her.
