QPA STEEAMS UP

What is STEEAM?

STEEAM is a very significant part of society. Yet some people are unaware of STEEAM and the role it plays  in  everyday life. What they don’t realize, is that the entire world uses STEEAM on a daily basis. For instance, most people can’t get through the day without STEEAM. When you go shopping, you use STEEAM. When you use any digital devices, you use STEEAM. Even when you get dressed—when you put an outfit together—its a part of STEEAM.

So, what is STEEAM?

STEEAM is an acronym  for science, technology, entrepreneurship, engineering, art and math. STEEAM is the foundation of most of the careers in today’s world, and has brought a significant amount of development to countries all over the world.

Additionally, STEEAM is an important foundation of knowledge delivered at Queens Preparatory Academy. The curriculum is designed to engage students and prepare them for the workplace. It also exposes them to real-world situations that enhance their academic achievements.  QPA offers many STEEAM related subjects like computer science, diverse math courses, entrepreneurship, and startup tech among others.

Startup Tech

The startup tech class is for 9th graders. It helps them develop an interest in the business world, while focusing on improving society as a whole. They study and debate problems in society they want to solve, and even build a business designed to solve a particular problem. The course also teaches them to code to create an app and other promotional materials for their business.

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is a class for 10th graders. In this course, students also learn to build a business. They advertise it, and create apps and posters for promotion. They also conference with mentors in the business world who support their work. Students also have a fun activity called the speed challenge. They have a very short period of time to create something—like a poster—to advertise their business. This type of activity helps gets students excited about the class.

Internships

Another opportunity offered by QPA involving STEEAM is internships and college classes. These classes involve technology, art and math. Moreover, students earn college credits for participation. Students selected for this program attend college class at Queensborough Community College every Saturday from 9 AM to 12:40PM. The classes offered are college algebra and design tech.

Some future goals in Queens Preparatory Academy involving STEEAM is that every junior and senior partakes in an internship or college class.
